Here on HubPages, my pen name is "GusTheRedneck," a  pen name designed to convey to you that I am a very happy and proud writer of just about anything that might bring some happiness and a bit more knowledge to myself and to anyone who reads it - in other words, pretty much anything that pops into my mind.

To make things short, but positive, I like to write. Sometimes people even like to read what I like to write.  That's kind of handy at times - like now...

Someone once asked me for my personal advice as to the wisdom of being a writer. My heartfelt reply was "If you don't have fun with writing, I suggest that you take up singing, politics, cruise ship cleaning, or some other less lucrative profession. Writers become buried in money, and that can be a real burden."

I can certainly testify to that. Here we are heading on into my third year here on HubPages, and I note that my earnings have caused great excitement over at the tax office. (Can you see it right now - grown men and women all running around like crazy people, all clapping their hands, eyes wild, and just smacking their lips in anticipation?)  Someone told them that Gus The Redneck is getting close to 50,000 "page views" over the last two years and has one hundred bucks coming to him fairly soon. The whole deal is really exciting.

Joining the ranks of the wealthy would probably be plenty good enough for most Rednecks. Not for me. I have joined with the many other Hubbers here on these pages to have more fun finger exercising than is ordinarily allowed on the Internet.

It has been a long time in the planning - my retirement from the strenuous effort of writing for a living. I'm going to adhere to the plan advocated by those financial wizards of the world - invest that extra money and live on the interest. Question: What sort of interest do they pay these days on one hundred bucks?

Allow me to add to the news of heavy dollars from AdSense earnings from hub page views. I just got word that the direct HubPages' ad earnings over the last year have been $51, but AdSense bucks have been reduced to only several pennies during that time. Win some-lose some, right?

Yes !  It is a good thing that we are not writing here for a living. (One hand on the keyboard and one covering the mouth to hide the smiles from the IRS.)
